Windsor Attorney Disbarred

by Cal Bryant - February 21st, 2007 - Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald

According to information supplied by the North Carolina State Bar, Windsor based attorney Teresa L. Smallwood was disbarred following a January 11-13 meeting by the State Bar’s Hearing Committee of the Disciplinary Hearing Commission.

The official action becomes effective 30 days after the disbarment order is served on Smallwood. To date, that order has yet to be served . . . .

Which means she is not disbarred yet. Read this article and the most amazing aspect of it is that the only action anticipated is that Smallwood is to be fined and must pay the costs of the disciplinary hearing. Why is she not being charged with crimes?

Any private citizen who took the actions described in this article would have to pay back the money. The courts and the police would help. The person would be arrested and jailed. However because an attorney is involved here each person wronged by the attorney will have to take care of the problem themselves. The courts will drag their feet and do little to help. The police will do little to help. The reason is simple. The courts cover for attorneys and punish the police if they ever go after attorneys.

Want to see how our system works? Watch this case as it unfolds. Also watch how little will be done against Nifong for his egregious behavior in the Duke rape case.

The only honest assessment is that our courts are corrupt. If you want to read some other examples of this double standard under our "rule of judges", check out my blog on the courts -
